New Families

We know supporting a cadet brings lots of questions. From uniforms to training schedules, advancement steps, fees, and forms. This section gathers everything in one easy spot so you can stay informed and feel confident every step of the way.

Sea Cadets require real commitment to thrive. We understand families juggle school, sports, and other activities – life happens! Our most successful cadets (and graduates) learn to balance those responsibilities while attending most drills, events, and trainings. We provide the best possible environment for success, but ultimately, it comes down to the cadet’s effort and family support.

You’re not alone in this journey – our unit leaders, volunteers, and fellow parents are here to help. Dive into the resources below, and reach out anytime with questions.

📅Drop in for a unit visit

A drill visit is your chance to see the Sea Cadets Georgia Division in action! Come observe a typical training session – watch cadets participate in leadership drills, physical fitness, seamanship, teamwork activities, and more. You’re welcome to stay for the entire day (usually 7:30 AM–4:00 PM EST) or drop in for just a couple of hours – whatever fits your schedule.

Feel free to chat with our volunteers, adult leaders, and current parents to ask questions and get a real feel for the program. We especially encourage parents to visit too! Seeing it firsthand is the best way to decide if Sea Cadets is right for your family.

👥New Cadet Buddy System

Every new cadet is paired with a buddy — a more experienced cadet who helps you learn the ropes, answer questions, and feel confident at drills and trainings.

📌Ready to Enroll? Here’s your Next Step

After visiting a drill and deciding Sea Cadets is a great fit, enrolling is straightforward, and we’ll guide you every step of the way:

  • Complete the Application Form – Download and fill out the application (print and complete by hand or fill digitally). The application form can be downloaded 👉here.
  • Submit application – Email the completed form to us at xo@gacadets.org or hand deliver at the next drill.
  • Pay the Initial Registration Fee:
    • 50% ($162.50) is required when you submit your application. You can opt to pay the full amount as well.
    • The remainder is paid after 3 months.
  • Download the SPOND App on your smartphone. This is where we send out communications to our cadets and parents. The Spond link is on our Download page.
  • Register as a first-time user in Quarterdeck. Quarterdeck is the official online system used by the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps to manage cadet records and keep everyone safe, informed, and compliant. The link is also available on our download page
Welcome Kit & Uniform Issuance

Once your registration is complete and initial payment is received, we’ll issue your cadet a Welcome Kit at the next drill. This kit includes:

  • PT Gear (yellow shirt and navy shorts). Your cadet will wear this for most of the drill activities until advancement.
  • Sea Cadet Drawstring bag.
  • Basic Orientation Materials.

Welcome Kit

Your cadet will begin the program at the rank of Recruit. After approximately three months, your cadet will have the opportunity to complete the required online training and pass the prescribed examination. Upon successful completion, your cadet will advance to Seaman Recruit (SR / E-1).

After 3 months, the remaining balance of the registration fee ($162.50) will be collected regardless if the cadet advances.

Following that, your cadet will be issued the Type III uniform, the primary working uniform for Sea Cadets. The Type III is the digital camouflage uniform worn with unit patches and appropriate insignia.

A $75 uniform deposit is required at the time of issue. This deposit helps ensure the proper care and return of all uniform items when a cadet resigns or graduates from the program.
